Send/Receive Settings

I was wondering if anyone knows whether it is possible to configure the
Send/Receive groups (add/remove them) and more importantly edit their
respective settings programmatically (or otherwise) from outside Outlook or
if need be (less preferred) via some automation method - anything other than
requiring explicit configuration within Outlook itself.

I believe these settings are written to an Outlook controlled .srs file (one
per messaging profile) but I was wondering whether there is anyway to default
these settings or modify them programmatically?
