I have setup a laptop using Outlook XP to use an OST
file. Currently it behaves like it is offline and
performs an automatic send/receive every 5 minutes, but I
would like for it to show the emails automatically and
download them every hour instead of 5 mintutes.

Does anyone know why it doesn't show the email
automatically when online?

If it is offline, it won't send/receive every five minutes. It will perform
an automatic send/receive only while online.

So, change the send/receive interval.
