"Send-Recv" disconnects modem

Home PC is ona modem - Win2000 Office2000 SP3. If I have a msg sitting in
my "outbox" and I hit "Send/Receive", my modem connection disconnects. No
confirming message(s)- it just disconnects. Any clues here?

We don't know your mail account types, connection types, mail support mode,
and polling settings.
