"send to" as attachements freezes outlook

Using "send to" to email an office 2003 file as attachement locks up the
message and outlook. An email message is created with attachement but the
send button is non-responsive and outlook locks up/freezes until the email
message is closed.
Any ideas?

Is the original file open ? This happens to me when the file that is being
attached is open omn the desktop

Yes the original file is open because I am using the "send to" option on the
file drop down menu. This problem is a recent development in the last 4-5
weeks. It worked fine before that and I used it frequently.
