I really think I am missing somethihng but it is late.

How do I Send a block of text, with or without graphics, to OneNote 2007
from Word 2007?

(Have not yet deciphered any but the most basic menus in Word 2007)

Works great if I have both programs open.
Was hoping to save keystrokes (Time) by simply "sending" the data.

You can "send" things to ON without ON being open if you *print* from
Word and use the ON-printer.
The result will an image, however, which can not be edited.

But I really wonder why having both programs open might be any problem
fir you. ON does not do any harm when sitting in the TaskBar <g>.
On my systems ON is open almost all of the time and I never close it.
