Send Using Account Option Gone

I recently upgraded from Outlook 2000 to Outlook 2003. In 2000, I could
click my "send using" icon to select which e-mail account I wanted to send
from. In 2003, I have to click "account" to select the e-mail account to use
and then click send.

Is there a way not to have a default send account so that I have to select
and not chance sending from wrong account?

it's how ol2003 handles multiple accounts... and no, you can't not have a
default account. Replies should go out on the account they came in on, you
could create a template to use a specific non-default account and choose it
when sending new mail.

Yep, that is the way it works since OL2002. You get to start composing
your e-mail and anytime before sending it you can select through which
account to send it.

The default account is used when you compose *new* e-mail. When you
reply to e-mail, the default account is the same one through which the
original e-mail got received (but you can change it). If someone sends
you e-mail to your second account, they won't know it is a second
account and will expect a reply from you on that second account. If you
change to a different account, they might think someone is spoofing a
reply; i.e., they know you at the e-mail address they used and you
received but they won't know you by some other e-mail address they never
used.

Sigh. I had this same problem when I moved from Outlook 2000 to 2002. I
hoped that it would be fixed in 2003.

"Send using" was a terrifically useful button for someone like me who
teaches, consults, subcontracts, and has a separate email address for each
(eight active email accounts at the moment). As it is, I regularly send
school emails from a work account, or the reverse. At a minimum, it confuses
my correspondents.

Yeah, I should be more careful. but useful features should stay in products,
too.

It's not clear what the problem is here. Both Outlook 2002 and Outlook 2003 allow you to choose the account for sending an item.

In OL 2000, I removed the send button from my toolbar and replaced it with
the Send Using button. Every time I sent an email, I forced myself to
explicitly select the sending account. Yes, it required an additional click
for every message I sent or replied to, but I was quite willing to pay that
price.

With the OL2002/2003 interface, it takes three clicks to do it right
(Accounts, <select>, Send) and one click to do it wrong (Send). Guess which
one I do?

In OL 2002 and now 2003, I have the Accounts button sitting right next to
the Send button. I'm well aware that I CAN select an account. Quite often,
I even DO select an account. But equally often (or let's be honest, more
often than not), I forget to select an account and just mash the Send button.


A few points here.
- I don't propose this as the default behavior for Send. Most OL uses will
never use such a feature if they even discover it in the first place. - I
recognize that I SHOULD select an account every time, but I've been doing
this for years and recognize that I'm likely to just screw up a lot,
particularly when I'm in a hurry.
- There was, in OL 2000, an elegant solution to my habitually erroneous
behavior. The disappearance of a feature that was useful to me and harmless
to everyone else is frustrating.

Heck, I bet it's missing from OL 2007, too. Maybe I'll get lucky with OL
2010 or finally sit down and learn VBA for Outlook. ;-)
