Sending appointment from Outlook 2003 to Outlook 97 - doesn't work

Any special setting on Outlook 2003 to make it so that I can send
appointments to colleagues using Outlook 97. I can send meeting requests to
Outlook XP if put in iCalendar format but 97 users tell me (annoyingly) "I
can't open this file..."

You have to not send in iCal format but in Rich Text Format (the user's
contact record has to be set for it)

I can't find a calendar option to send in rich text format. I changed email
format from HTML to Rich Text format leaving the iCalendar option unchecked
and tried sending to the other user in my office (she uses office xp) and the
meeting request was not received as a meeting request (just looked like an
ordinary email). Checked iCalendar and it worked to Office XP user - but this
is basically the same setting as I had before and colleagues using Office 97
will still not be able to receive. Any further ideas?
