sending appointments emails to attendees

When I try to send an appointment to attendees in Outlook 2003, I get a
message saying:
"Task - Sending' reported error (0x8004210B) : 'The operation
timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP) server. If you
continue
to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet
service provider (ISP).'
Or
Task ' - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC13) : 'Unable to connect
to the network. Check your network connection or modem.'
I can receive and send any other emails.
