Sending custom Gantt bars to Project Server 2002

Hi there! New to the forum, and I'm having some trouble translating my Project 2002 Gantt charts to Project Server 2002 without losing some important data, namely the bar colors. I have changed the bar colors for tasks based upon their status (such as Approved, In Review, Arbitrated, etc). When I import my project to the server, it reverts everything back to the default blue. Upper management loves colors, so I need to display these charts in color in Project Web Access for this to work.

I initially had colored these bars based on a (buggy) VBA script, but I changed that to custom defined bars (under Format->BarStyles menu) using the "Flag1" for "Approved", "Flag 2" for "In Revew", and so on fields but I still can't get Project Server to display those colors.

Does anyone know how to import custom colored Gantt bars to Project Server 2002? It's driving me nuts. Project Server doesn't seem to accept new Gantt bar styles, though it does have some called "Custom Duration" that I have no idea how to use. Thanks in advance!

You cannot change the colors of the Gantt bars in Project Web Access. On
the other hand, you can use one or more custom columns with stoplight
indicators or other symbols to display the status of each task, such as
"Approved", "In Review", etc. Those custom fields would need to be set up
in the Enterprise Global, and then populated for each project. Each project
will need to be published to PWA as well. You will also need to create a
custom Project view in PWA to display the fields containing the custom
indicators.

Many of the companies I have worked with use an approach like this, and very
successfully as well. You executives will just need a little training to
get used to seeing the indicators for each task instead of bar colors. Hope
this helps.

Sounds interesting, though I don't know how to get started with that (the stoplight indicators). Would that happen to be in the book you're involved in? :) I do appreciate your help.

Yes, custom fields with stoplight indicators are referenced in the book from
our company. However, there are many other books that reference the topic
as well, so take your choice. Once you've mastered the concept, I believe
you will find that things like stoplight indicators will meet the reporting
needs of your executives. Hope this helps.
