Sending fax from Office 2003

Hello,
I have a question regarding how to send a fax from my laptop.
What I have installed is Windows XP Media Center Edition 2002 Version 2002
SP3, and Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 SP3.
In the past - before XP - there was a fax application integrated into MS
Office, which was more or less hassle free, and it enabled the user to send
faxes, e.g. MS Word documents, by simply connecting a phone cable to the
built-in modem.
This feature appears to be non-existent in my current setup.
When searching the Microsoft site, I am told to either subscribe to an
internet fax service, or, other service provider. That was not necessary
beforee XP, if my memory serves me well.
Now my question: what application, and from where shall I download it
(preferably a free of charge download), gives me the same possibility to send
(and receive?) faxes as I used to have in the pre-XP days?
Many many thanks for your help!
Kind regards,
Thomas

Nope, but it was integrated into Windows as a printer driver, making it
available from any/all of your programs.

Assuming you have a built-in modem, go to Control Panel, Printers and Faxes.
There you can add a new FAX "printer". When you print to it, it'll send faxes.
