Sending Outlook email by category

This is really frustrating and I'd appreciate anyhelp with
this at all. I want to send emails out of my contact list
by a category which I have assigned to certain people. I
have tried creating a distribution list but there is no
option to select members by category. I have thousands of
names in the Contacts and to go thru each one to select
the particular list seems absurd. Is there any way to do
this?

Sort your Contacts Folder by Category.
Select a Category Header
Actions > New Message to Contact.
