Sending Status Reports to groups of individuals

We have GroupWise here and make quite a bit of use of email groups.
Often times we send out notifications to dozen's of people at one time.

Can you send a status report (requested or especially unrequested) to a
predefined group so that it goes out "shotgun" like our GroupWise email
groups?

Since email addresses are associated with entries in the resource pool,
how is a GroupWise distribution alias defined in Project Server? Or is
it necessary to do so? How would it be different?
