Sent Folder is Empty?

When I open Outlook 2003 everything is O.K. except Sent folder, which
contained over 500 sent messages, is empty? My operating system is Vista
Ultimate and I am using Office 2003. I also have the McAfee Security System
activated on the computer. If I send a test message it appears in the Sent
folder but I don't know what happened to the other sent messages? I didn't
delete anything at all?
Can someone tell me what happened and if I can retrieve the missing messages
of my Sent folder. Thanks, in advance, for any advice provided.

What type of email account? Do you have a filter applied to the Sent folder?
Do you have more than one PST in your profile (Ctrl+6 to go to the folder
list view - you can see all folders from there).
