Are you possibly using a filtered view of the Sent Items folder?

A

No, The sent mail folder is completely empty. The sent messages disappear
after three to four days.
I am not using filters and auto archive is disabled. Any other suggestions?

Thank you!

I know you said Archive is not set but have you actually checked in the
Archive folder?
When I said search, I meant use the OL search function, not physicaly look

Yes, I did run a search (using the OL search function), including searching
the archive folders. Still, those messages did not appear.

And if you right-click the Sent Items folder, choose Properties, and select
the AutoArchive tab, the radio button labeled "Do not archive items in this
folder" is definitely selected?

Right click the folder and choose Properties-> Folder Size. Does the folder
size indicate that there are messages in the folder?
Which mail account type are you using?
After 3-4 days all messages are wiped that exist then out or does it go away
when an item is 3 or 4 days old?
Which addins do you have installed?
Can you repro this issue or has this been a one-off for you?

Folder size is 0 - I have a POP3 account. It started to happen about two
weeks ago. My inbox is fine.
When I send a message it stays in my sent folder for about 3 - 4 days then
it disappears.

AutoArchive is the only option in Outlook that can physically remove items
after a few days. If AutoArchive is not enabled, and there is no corruption
in your pst-file, you must have something else installed which removes the
items for you. Therefore again, which addins do you have installed?

The following add-ins are installed:
iTunes Outlook Addin
McAfee Outlook Add-in
Microsoft Exchange Unified Messaging
Microsoft Office SharePoint Server Colleague Import Add-in
Microsoft Outlook Mobile Service
Microsoft VBA for Outlook Addin
Windows Search Email Indexer
WinZip E-mail Companion

Do you think one of these may be causing the problem?

I ran a complete McAfee scan and it found/removed 1 suspicious program
