What version of Word, what version of Windows, what Printer model and driver version? Just one document or any document?

Dear Bob, Word 2003, Windows XP, I thought it might be my printer, but I went
and got another printer and it still happens. My computer guy, who teaches
the highest level of computer classes at the college says it's definitely in
the computer; the computer is not sending the program to the printer
correctly. I have tried to change spacing, change fonts, sending it to email
and printing, nothing works. This is the second emachine media center 2005
that I have bought--The first one did the same thing. I am extremely
frustrated. I am 53, disabled and a student on Social Security. It was very
hard for me to come up with the money to buy this computer. $499 is A LOT of
money for me. I have a Lexmark all in one (printer, scanner, copier, fax). I
have had a couple of them and they are a great little machine. It's not the
printer. When printing, one sentence will print on top of the previous
sentence, making it unreadable. I will also lose words, even though I know I
have my margins set correctly; words will also double print. I am so upset. I
have so much work to do and I just can't get it done. Please don't tell me to
use the computers at school. School is 15 miles aaway and besides, I do most
of my work at night. I have chronic pain issues and don't sleep well, so I
sit up at night and work. Please if anyone out there can help me

Hi Dineencrab,

There are several possibilities with this. One is a glitch in Word that sometimes 'piles' letters on top of each others. This one
seems to be more prevalent when there are add-ins running within Word and if you use the Quick Print icon on the toolbar rather than
the File=>Print dialog.

You can sometimes clear the problem by following these steps.

With Word closed use
Start=>Search and look for files with the name string of
~$*.*;*.tmp
and moving them to the recycling bin.

Start Word and if the problem still persists use File=>Print
to switch to a different printer driver then back to your regular one and then printing.

There are other possibilties, including an over-accelerated graphics card driver, missing or corrupted fonts, or a corrupted
document). Check to see how things look in Print Preview immediately after printing if you're getting a problem with the printed
copy to see if that looks different.

Hi,
We are having the same problem, characters ovelapping at left margin when
printing document.
The proposed solutions do not solve our problem.
Has anyone found a solution?
Thanks in advance for your answers.

Hi Catherine,

Are you saying that you see no change after doing any of the steps listed using Word 2003?

What printer choices are listed in File=>Print that you're switching between and are the printers locally installed on your PC or
network only drivers?

If you start Word in Office safe mode (hold ctrl key when starting Word) after deleting the temp files on the drive where your
documents are stored do you get the same result if you switch printer choices in File=>Print?

In Tools=>Options=>Print is the choice to use background printing on or off?
