server busy problem

T

Tommy Tang

When opening a Word document using CHtmlView I sometimes get the following
error message:

"Server Busy," "This action
cannot be completed because the other
program is busy..."

This error doesn't happen on all computer, but just on one WinXP
computer(with office2000 and IE6).
Then I used IE to open a word document on that computer, the document was
opened outside by a
standalone winword.exe, not within IE. What's the reason? Is something
missed on that computer or some
wrong configurement? BTW, I have tried to open other office document such as
excel and ppt, the same problem occured.
Any help is appreicated.

I have encountered the similar problem. As I try to access the menu bar functions (such as to open a new Word Document, Format>Style), as the Open window pops up and wait for a few seconds, the screen freezes and then the popup server busy error occurs. It says [Server Busy, This action cannot be completed because the "Document1 - Microsoft Word" program is busy. Choose Switch To" and correct the problem. Switch, Retry, Cancel].

Cheers!

PS. I am using Win2000 and Office 2000 Premium. Have installed all necessary service packs.

Can you explain this a bit more? Is something you are doing in code? does
this involve just Word or another application as well? Can you post some of
the code that is running when the box pops up?

Thanks for the help

Sounds like you may have some add-ins that are doing something bad then.
Have you installed any new software lately?

Make sure there is nothing in your Word STARTUP folder (usually C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Startup".

You may have a COM Add-In that's acting wierd. You can turn it off through
the COM Add-Ins window. In Word, the only way to get to this dialog box in
by using TOOLS | CUSTOMIZE and locating and dragging the COM Add-Ins button
out onto your toolbar.

It may be acting wierd if you are using Word as your e-mail editor in
Outlook. In Outlook, go to TOOLS | OPTIONS | MAIL FORMAT to turn it off.

Thank you very much for your helps. You are right

I think the problem was caused by my installing a dictionary software (Kingsoft). As I removed the software, the problem disappeared. However, I did installed the program several years ago and I did not encouter the problem. I do not know why

Thanks again.

Could be a conflict with the version of Word you are using now. Check with
the maker of the software.
