Server error: Cannot create folder "_vti_cnf".

Robert

when I try and publish my website I get:

Server error: Cannot create folder "_vti_cnf".

_vti_cnf folder exists both locally and remote

any help?

the permissions on the _vti_cnf folder is 755; which seems correct.

the web host says they do not touch anyones permissions

can i use frontpage and ftp to publish websites and not use frontpage server
extentions?

Sometimes file creation errors are an indication you have run out of space on your server

I've been having this as well. Didn't get it when I first published (over
two years ago), nor when I uploaded a new site using FrontPage 2003 (I had
used FP 2000 originally). The site seems to be loaded fine. Contacted my
host---plenty of room. They sent me back to Microsoft (after pointing me
towards a couple other forums).
I ended up deleting the entire site (not because of this problem) and
re-published it----still got the same error message (and somehow it also
published an old version of a page that I had deleted from both local and
remote locations---that was weird).
So-----anyone have other ideas for this error?
By the way, one of the suggestions I got was to FTP into my site and change
the name of the _vti_cnf folder (or delete it). Did that, and same stuff
still.

This sounds like a permissions issue. Has your host run a server health
check on the extensions? Or, they may need to actually reinstall the
extensions. (especially if you've been deleting _vti folders via FTP).

Actually, one of the things my host had me do was turn off the FP extensions,
wait awhile and then reactivate them. I've done this a few times....the most
recent because FP wouldn't publish AT ALL until I did this. (I did it after I
deleted my site from the host, and before I republished).
