Server Extension Configuration

M

Mike Pedersen

Greetings,

Does anybody have a link to a site/resource for configuring FP 2002
extensions? I have the 2002 extensions loaded and I'm running FP 2003, but
I'm having problems with components that rely on the extensions being loaded.

On another note, when I go to manage my extensions, it always tells me that
the programming software and extensions are not compatible. Any ideas?
Thank you so much for your help.

Which OS are you running?

For my test box I'm running Windows 2000 and for my publishing box I'm
running Windows Server 2003. I think my problem is the FP 2002 extensions
aren't installed properly. I get an incompaitibity error and that keeps me
from administering the extensions and also keeps me from setting up my e-mail
transport. Any suggestions on getting them installed properly would be a
great help to my company. Thank you for your time! I really appreciate it.

Under Windows 2000, did you install the FP2000 extensions first and then upgrade to the FP2002
extensions?

Under Windows 2003, you are limited to the FP2002 extensions that come with the Windows 2003 OS, as
no over version of the FP2002 extensions are supported.

You have to access the FP2002 extension via Control Panel | Admin Tools | Server Extensions Admin.

How did you install the extensions on the 2003 server? Where did you get
them from?

Ok.. I installed the extensions on my 2000 box and here's the error I
received:

The server administration programs and the server extensions on the web
server are not compatible. The administration program is too old to use with
this server.

As far as updating after installation, I'm not sure what you're talking about.

Thank you for dealing with my ignorance.....

I heard from the other gentlemen that I have to use the extensions that ship
witht the OS since no others are supported. I used the ones from Microsoft's
download section. I'm trying to get my 2000 machine running first so I can
test before publishing. When I install the extensions here's what I get:

The server administration programs and the server extensions on the web
server are not compatible. The administration program is too old to use with
this server.

Thank you for dealing with my ignorance.....

Did you remove the FP2002 extensions from the Windows 2000 box?

You may need to uninstall IIS and the extensions or in worse case reformat and start over.

Ok, wasn't ready for that. Reformatting isn't an option since I'm controlled
by the IT geeks. I can try uninstalling IIS and the extensions and reloading
them. Any suggestion as to what order? Thanks again for your help.

Windows 2000 - Uninstalling: Extensions, then IIS

Windows 2000 - Installing: IIS and the default FP2000 extensions included on the CD. Do not upgrade
to the FP2002 extensions until you have the FP2000 extensions working correctly.

I understand your objective is to get the FP 2002 SE installed under Win 2000
- Start by removing the FP 2000 SE from IIS (Control Panel - Add Remove Programs - Windows Components - IIS- Details)
- then download and install the FP 2002 SE from
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnservext02/fpse2002win.asp
(install build 5.0.2.2623 then 5.0.2.4803)

For Win 2003 only use the FP SE 2002 from the Win 2003 CD
