Server Portal concept

K

Kevin

All,

My boss has tasked me with creating a public facing portal that gives a
summary of all projects in Project Server 2007 filtered by project sponsor
(Enterprise Custom Outline Code). Then she wants to have drill down
capability that takes this anonymous user to a document portal that contains
or provides links to all the documents contained in all the projects (or
specifically project planning documents). This list of documents needs to be
filtered by project or project phase (Project Planning, Requirements,
Analysis, Design, etc...). If anyone has suggestions please let me know.

Kevin:

You're kind of asking for someone to post a book in reply. At a very
high-level, what I would do is put up a new front end box in the DMZ.
Install WSS and Project Server on it connecting to your production system
through a firewall. Then add your extranet users to your system giving them
the limited permissions that they need to access this data, and at the same
time consider redacting the UI presentation on the extranet server to
further limit what parts of the system are exposed to the end user. This is
very do-able using the 2007 technologies.

If you have specific development questions, ask them at
