service pack sr1a office 2000

I just reformatted my hard disk. I use office 2000 and windows 2000. When
I try to service release 1a, two bad things happen. If I try to open in
explorer, nada, just does nothing. If I download the o2ksr1.exe file, then
try to open, it demands that I have the original CD for office 2000 or find
something called data1.msi (I don't have the original cd-I used the recovery
disk to start up again). Any help appreciated-desparate.

Afraid that for Office 2000 you do need the install CD. If you do not have it then you are out of luck unless you find one at EBay or similar.

Thanks-Its hard to believe that Microsoft would put people in such a catch 22
loop. Why offer updates if most of us can't use them?

What happened to your original media?

Why are you only updating Office 2000 now?

You put yourself in the loop when you did not contact the manufacturer of
your computer and demand that they provide the disks for the installed
software. Microsoft requires mfgs. to supply the CD(s) for Office on any
computer where it is pre-installed.

So, you are saying most people lose or misplace their program cds? And, if
they do, it's Microsoft's fault?
