Service that offeres recovery of corrupt documents

Just thought I'd let you know that I too used the Word-rescue service
Mark Anthony referred to in his " "Re: Word document crashes Word
program -- how can I fix the damaged document? FIXED!!" thread. (For
reference to my problem, see "how do i retrieve formatting due to
corruption & determine if template is corrupt?" thread).

Prior to using the recovery service I was unable to open the file in
Word (it would crash every time before the document opened). The word
rescue service re-established the formattting of my document, including
tables. There were a few minor things that were different (i.e. some of
the styles had a "WW" prefix in the name, which meant that I simply did
a global find and replace to reassign style to my original style).

The person that assisted me was helpful and provided a quick
turn-around time. I found the service to be definitely worth $29 US
(the company is based in Spain).

For anyone interested, the website is:
www.word-rescue.com/howrecover/index.php
They do Mac recovery, as well as PC. They offer a "per-file recovery
services, and also sell their software, but it is made for PC's only.
When I asked why they said not enough demand in Europe for a Mac
version. When they run Word recovery for people that use Macs, they
just feed it thru a PC, then it email it back for the person to open it
in Mac.

Cheers,
Jen

Thanks Jen:

They look like a good genuine company! I might even put a pointer to them
on the website.

Any company that offers you a free trial of their software has to be OK in
my book.

I suppose I really ought to load the thing into Virtual PC and ensure that
it runs on a Mac.

Anyone want to send me a corrupt document to play with? If you have one,
please DON'T email it direct! Email me first with a plain-text email and I
will give you a password through the mail server!

(Sorry about that: my mail server automatically deletes any email with an
attachment -- because there seem to be some slow-learners out there who seem
determined that every MVP should have an up-to-date copy of every virus ever
made...)

Cheers
