set a height position on a Word template

K

Kieran

I have created a Word template (.dot)

In this template, certain text needs to at exact positions.

I can use the tabs (by setting their width in millimetres) to get it at an
exact width.

But i can not see how i can set the height position to a exact height
position on the page i.e. i need to have the text 28.5mm down the page.

How would i do this.

Thanks.

Fonts are measure in points. There are (generally) 72 points in an inch.
From there you can do the math.

HOWEVER.................you are going to run into differences between fonts.
I think you have some reading to do.
http://www.oberonplace.com/dtp/fonts/point.htm

If the height is critical, perhaps you need to draw to lines that far apart
and make your letters fit.

Hi,

I'm not sure if you understand. Its the posoions i need.

For example, I need to put an image at, say 28.5mm, down the page. Then at
62mm, i will have text that gives say the date.

Surely there is some way to pick off various heights on the page.

For example, if our corporate office says we must have fax sheets with the
company logo at 30mm in left and 45mm down the page. Then all text must
start at 48mm in left and 80mm down the page.

Is there a way to do this.

Thanks.

I would ask them for a template. If that's not an option, you're going to
have to do a bit of trial, print, and measuring.

I have the ruler on but for measurements like 58.5mm...its not really
applicable.

I would have thought that there would have been a way to go to exact height
positions on page as you can do it on widths using tabs.

I can do it in Publisher but when you try to transfer the document into
Word, there's no guarantee that it will be in the same location.

It looks like this conversation has been going on for two hours. In that
time, you could have done a bit of tweaking and fiddling around with it
manually and call it a completed project.

no i couldn't have.

i have to do a lot of templates i.e fax, memo, short letterhead, long
letterhead etc... so it would surely make more sense to get the process
right...rather than dive in and do a half assed job each time.

also i was hoping for better advice rather than -
"you're going to have to do a bit of trial, print, and measuring"

and the brilliant -
"I can do it in Publisher but when you try to transfer the document into
Word, there's no guarantee that it will be in the same location."

as the saying goes...if you have nothing to say...

since this is a MS Word forum...i really thought there would have been
someone who would know Word backwards and would be able to answer these
questions.

Actually it isn't a "Word forum" but the "microsoft.public.office.misc"
newsgroup, and it's populated by users as yourself. Any answers you
receive are merely suggestions and you are free to pick and choose the
one that fits.

Actually, my response was quite appropriate for this newsgroup. It can be
done with an *Office* program, just not with Word.

And I never told you to do a half-a$$ed job. I've done things with trial and
error and I can promise you, they were not half-a$$ed. My work products
represent me so I would never dream of producing something that wasn't done
to the best of my ability. But you may be a Scott Adams fan and feel that
"If a job's worth doing , it's too hard."
