Set category private

I would like to set up a category such that all appointments ever created in
that category will automatically be marked as private. (Outlook 2007)

You'd have to write that solution yourself, e.g. in VBA.

Since I have zero programming skills, could you refer me to someone who would
be willing to do the programming for me. It would have to be a work of love
though, no payment possible.

See if outlookcode.com has any code samples that will get you started.

Since you have to assign a category to an event, how is this operationally
any different than simply marking the event private? You still need to
perform an operation to modify the event.

With one action you can perform two actions - and you can't forget one.

The aim is to sync between Outlook with my WM phone using Activesync which in
turn gets synced to Google Calendar using Goosync. The multiple Google
Calendars would each be linked to a Category within my main Outlook calendar.
Since that calendar is shared with others at work, I would like all
appointments in these categories to be marked private. I don't want to mark
them private in GCal, since some of them are shared with my wife, who needs
to see al the details.

I hope this makes it clearer.
