Set Up -Office Document Imaging as a "Printer"

MoJo

I would like to add "Microsoft Document Imaging" as a Printer option in my
"Printers" Folder. My son's NEW computer has this option but I cannot seem
to set it up on my older computer.

Does anyone have any suggestions??

Thanks

I have Office Pro 2003 so that prob explains why it is not working - Damn.

Maybe some MS guys can figure out a way to include/allow for that!

Thanks again

Sorry, I meant any edition of Office 2003 (Standard,
Professional, Small Business, etc.). If you have Office 2003
Professional, then you should be able to install the MODI printer
driver feature from the original CD. Instructions courtesy of
Windows MVP Carey Frisch:
1. Close all running applications. If you have any Office
application running, the driver will not be installed properly.
2. Go to "Control Panel" and "Add or Remove Programs".
3. Click on "Microsoft Office 2003" and then click on "Change".
4. Check "Add or Remove Features" and click "Next".
5. On the bottom of the page check "Choose advanced
customization of applications." and click "Next".
6. Under Microsoft Office click on the + sign in front of
"Office Tools"
7. Locate the object "Microsoft Office Document Imaging",
click the icon and select "Not Available".
8. Click on "Update". This will uninstall the MODI driver.
9. Repeat steps 1 to 6 to go back to the same location you
were before.
10. Locate the object "Microsoft Office Document Imaging",
click the icon and select "Run from My Computer".
11. Click on "Update".

Once this is complete, you can go to "Control Panel" and then to
"Printers and Faxes", if you see a printer with the name of
"Microsoft Office Document Image Writer" then the MODI (Microsoft
Office Document Imaging) is properly installed.

Thanks for the reply

I found Carey Frisch's post as well.

It worked great.

Its important that everyone realize it is a 3 step process (I aplogize for
my general non technical jargon...)

1 - You must close ALL running applications

2 - basically you "unistall" the program

and then

3 - Reinstall it

It seems to be an interesting "issue" with some MS Office users.

Thank you so much!!! Your solution was very helpful to me, too. I was really
wondering what happend to my MODI printer feature, recently. I updated my
window and from that time I could not use MODI. I am so glad to decide to
visit microsoft and look for solution. Thank you again.

its terrific isn't it.

great for saving webpages when you don't want to print them out and/or deal
with all the files req'd when saving an HTML file

Has anyone had a problem with MODI and using the Automatic Document Feeder.
I have it setup to scan multiple pages in 1 file. Even so, it continues to
want to save each "page" and I have to "babysit" the computer and click
"continue". The only change I made to the printer (Brother DCP 1000 b&w
laser) was to connect it via the USB instead of the cable attachment. This
is driving me crazy and Brother has been no help at all.

In response to the following comment by Garfield below:

"Once this is complete, you can go to "Control Panel" and then to "Printers
and Faxes", if you see a printer with the name of "Microsoft Office Document
Image Writer" then the MODI (Microsoft Office Document Imaging) is properly
installed."

My problem is that after I go through the 2 steps of (1) effectively
uninstalling MODI via the "Not Available" process described below and (2)
effectively re-installing MODI via the "Run from my computer" process
described below, I still don't have MODI as a print option.

Two questions:

(1) do I need to add MODI as a printer using the "add printer" option within
"Printers and Faxes" from my START menu? and

(2) How do I selectively re-install the MODI-related applications from my
Office 2003 CD (or do I need to uninstall/reinstall Office 2003 completely,
which I did this morning but to no avail on the MODI problem)?

Thanks,
Adam
