setting a default font for Comments

Is there a way of setting a default font for Comments? every time I add one, its in Times?

Why sure - and once you come to understand that all formatting in Word is
best controlled by Styles you'll better be able to answer such questions on
your own :)

Of the Built-In Styles Word offers, the formatting of Comments is controlled
by the one called "Comment Text" plus a couple of others for Reference &
Subject formatting. Edit the Style to customize it to what you prefer. If you
want the change to be permanent make sure to check the box for "Add to
Template", otherwise the modification will only apply to the current document.
