Setting default "From" address

Super Dave

I have MS Outlook 2003 Professional on new machine and noticed that when I
compose emails the "From" address is always blank, even though it shows the
correct address in the reply address field. My other PC allows me to
select an email account as a default address. i would like Outlook to always
put my address as "From" automatically but can't find the correct procedure
and must enter it manually. Any ideas?

If nothing is in the From field, it's using your default address. Have you
tested sending mail to see what happens?

I have sent messages that have been returned and when i have gone to the sent
message the "From" field is empty. This happens only on new messages and not
replies.

When i click on "Options" in a new email the window that pops up has a
unchecked box for "Have replies will be sent to:". when i check the box my
address appears. How can i get Outlook to always check that box?

If you're referring to the "From" field that can be made to appear in the
compose window, that has no bearing on the account that is used to send the
message. If that's not what you mean, can you be more explicit?

This best describes problem:

SYMPTOMS
When you send an e-mail message in Microsoft Office Outlook 2003, the From
field in the e-mail message that is in your Sent Items folder may not contain
any e-mail addresses. Also, you may receive a non-delivery report (NDR)
message in your Inbox folder that is similar to the following:
Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject: test
Sent: 6/30/2004 1:48 PM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

'[email protected]' on 6/30/2004 1:48 PM
None of your e-mail accounts could send to this recipient.
CAUSE
This issue occurs if all the following are true:• You are using Microsoft
Office Outlook 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1).
• You are using either a Post Office Protocol version 3 (POP3) account or an
Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) account.
• The e-mail message was sent to one or more people who are not in your
domain.
• Outlook 2003 is configured to receive an NDR message for all recipients.

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products
that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

Currently, there is no resolution for this issue. Because the e-mail message
was not delivered to any recipients, the fact that you have an empty From
field in an-email message that is in your Sent Items folder would be known
only by you.
