Setting in Services (Local)

In Services (Local) I have the following entries:

COM+ Event System Status (No Entry) Start up Type
Manual
COM+ System Application Status (No Entry) Start up Type
Automatic

There are error notifications in the Event Log

I have been told by other users that their settings are as follows:

COM + Event System Status Manual Start up Type
Started
COM+ System Application Status Manual Start up Type
Stopped

Tried to Start COM+ Event System and got a Services Dialogue Box which
read:

"Could not start the COM + Event System Service on Local Computer.
Error 126
-- the specified module could not be found.

Any suggestions what the effect of this situation is, as it appears that
any
dependent services will fail to start. What level of knowledge is
required to
correct the position.

Both are showned as Manual Start-up on my Win XP (SP2). COM+ Event was
started.

However, my understanding is that the COM+ Event does not start when OS
starts but will be called & started by whatever needs it. That's why its
Startup Type is Manual. Otherwise, Windows OS would have set its Startup
Type to Automatic.

OTOH, I am not an expert on Services and this newsgroup is actually for
Microsoft Access, a database application. Suggest you re-post in one of the
relevant newsgroups for the OS you are using.

Thanks for that. I am using Windows XP home edition SP 2.

I guess what I want is the relevant Microsoft Newsgroup, but I have not
been successful in identifying it.
Have followed the Log error messages through without solving the
problem. Someone suggested I want a programmer to sort this out., but
they seem to be thin on the ground here.

I counted about 30 WindowsXP newsgroups on the news server "msnews"???

You may want to repair your Windows XP Home installation. IIRC, this is one
of the options you have on your Windows XP CD.

Unfortunately computer came with XP installed, so no CD. However, I do
have a red "floppy" which would take the
computer back to the installed position at purchase, but I would imagine
this would require considerable transfers to CD of everything done since
purchase date, and also require downloading of all updates since
original purchase inclding SP 2.
