Setting resources to different maximum by Project

D

db

I have a situation where a project server 2003 Project Manager would like to
set all resources to a maximum that is different than the 'max units'
established by the enterprise resource pool. If this is attempted with
current settings, then the warning comes up indicating that changes will not
be saved. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to do this other than some VB
code that would control work by removing the 'difference' from each task as
it is assigned a resource (which I think is not a good plan anyway).

Thanks in advance for comments.

Hi, what is the business problem you are trying to achieve? If you want
users to work more hours than is calculated due to the max units then you can
type this in. Please describe further and then we might be able to help.

Thanks for the response. Business problem is simple: Project Manager does not
agree with allowed enterprise resource maximums on some resources (= 100% or
1.0) and wants to have any schedules developed by him to allow scheduling
resources at his desired maximum (ie: 75% or .75) BUT also wants his desired
maximum to be 'automatically' applied to any task to which the resource is
assigned. This behavior would be allowed if using only local resources and
not connected to the Enterprise pool, but as we are using Project Server
2003, the situation is more complex. Need to also note that setting the
global resources to the project manager's desired maximum is not an aoption
as it would impact all other Project Managers.

Doe this help clarify?

db:

Your PM can change the max units settings for each resource in the Resource
Sheet view, however these values are flushed when the project session ends.
To preserve the desired settings, your PM can save the values to a local
custom field in the project and then use cut and paste on that column to
quickly restore them for the next session.
