setting up ldap access for an os x server

Hi.

I have an OS X Server (10.4.5) and want to access the ldap via
Entourage 2004. I can access the ldap with Address book no problem. But
when I put the same info in Entourage, I get the -17766 error. I have
tried all the different options in the directoy service prefs in
Entourage. Any ideas?

Thanks.

FYI. OS X Server uses standard 389 (non SSL) for LDAP. I am aware
Microsoft uses 3268 for theirs.

That shouldn't really be a problem :-\
Thanks.

You can set up the port Entourage has to use with LDAP in the advanced
options. Did you do that ??

Yes, port is 389.

Weird, huh? Exact same settings (except for scope option, since there
isn't one in Entourage) as Address Book, but still there error. And
this is SR 2.1 for Entourage 2004. I agree this SHOULDN'T be a problem,
but no worky.

It's just a wild guess, but what if you use the IP address of the LDAP
server instead of its name ??

oh, sorry, should have written that I tried that. I've tried ip and dns
name. Same error.

Than I'm running out of option. I never have such problem with the
couple of LDAP servers I can connect to. Beside a configuration problem,
I really can't see what could be wrong :-\

I know, weird, since it is working in Address Book with this LDAP
server.

Search base I am using is the dns name of the server, ie
dc=host,dc=domain,dc=com
