I keep getting an error that the section width is greater than the page width
and there are no items in the additional space, some pages may be blank. I
can't figure out how to keep all the infomration on one landscape
8.5X11...Please help.

If you expanded the design view grid larger than the print area you will get
that even if there are no objects. And the area beyond print area will
produce extra sheets.
Open in design view and adjust the grid area smaller.

Drag the right edge of the report's design space way over to
the left and let up on the mouse button. The design space
width will then be reduced to the minimum needed for the
stuff you put on the report. If that's still too wide, then
move or change the width of the offending controls until all
of it fits within your specified margins.

Karl, That didn't work or I didn't understand your instructions. My current
grid size is only 9 inches and the only way to get rid of the error is to
extend that data box out to 10.5, then I still have blank pages...

M

Mark

Marshall....I tried that, but am still getting blanks on every other page.
The field that is causing me grief is a large field, but has no data in it.
To get rid of the width error, I have to drag that field out to 10.5, but my
left and right margins are set to .166. Once I drag it out to 10.5, I don't
get the error message any longer, just get every other page of blanks

Do you have horizontal lines. If they fall on a grid line they are not
noticiable. One way is to open in design view and click on menu EDIT -
Select All.

Foolish question but I got to ask --- Did you while the report was open
in design view go to menu FILE - Page Setup and select Landscape?

M

Mark

Yes, there are horizontal lines, but that's not my problem...as far as I
know. I have adjusted all those and they don't appear on the second blank
page. I do have the page setup to landscape. When I change the paper size
to 11x17, it fixes my problem, but I am trying to keep it on 8.5x11 for
presentation purposes...

M

Mark

Karl, it's actually doing the same thing to me, regardless if I pick 8x11 or
11x17. If I take it out so I don't get the width message, I get blanks.

I think I have solved it, at least on the 11x17. Under page setup, columns,
if you select that value to be less than the page size it fixed it. Right
now I have it selected to 16 for a landscape 11x17 and I'n not getting the
blanks or the width message. Thanks for you help.

Not sure what you mean by "drag that field out to 10.5", but
it sounds like you moved the text box to the right. It
needs to be moved to the left so that it's right edge is
less than 10.6" Then drag the right edge of the design
space so it is also less than that.

I also had this problem and finally figured it out. It was indeed
frustrating and the solution is a bit strange. The best way to solve this is
to first go to Layout View and then go to AutoFormat and select any design
that shades or colors every other row. This shading actually will then show
you the width of the section which is exceeding your page width.

Now go to Print Preview. Then go to "Columns" in the Page Layout section of
the menu ribbon. My report is set for one column. then go to the Column width
section and start playing around with widths that are less than the width of
the page. As you change this number, you will see the shaded rows change in
width. Keep playing around with those numbers until the section is reduced
the way you want it and is still less than the width of the section plus the
width of the two margins. As a shortcut you can select the box "Same as
Detail" which should automatically reduce the section to fit. It works but
doesn't let you play around with the width to make it look exactly the way
you want the report to print.

Good luck.
