Setup cannot continue

With an OS of Ultimate Vista, and first having installed and then deciding to
uninstall MS Office Standard 2007, in order to install MS Office Ultimate
2007, the install ends abruptly with the msgbox "Setup cannot continue
because a required file is either corrupt or not available. Run Setup again
from the original source disc or download location." Funny thing 'tho, I was
running from the original disc. I've tried the copy technique suggested by
the MS Office website, ending with the same result. I've even attempted
install as the administrator, same result. This is the second time occuring
on two separate packages of Office Ultimate 2007. I'm at a complete loss of
investment dollars (more than $400).

Is there anyone else who has had this same installation problem?

If so, how did you resolve it?

I'm very dissappointed at this point.

Thanks for the link. As I mentioned in my 1st post, I already tried the copy
dvd to 'Office Test' folder. I attempted to install from there and got the
same results, "Setup cannot continue..." The Full Retail Office Standard 2007
installed just fine from that DVD drive. I uninstalled it in order to give as
a gift to my daughter, on whose computer is working fine. I never imagined
that when I purchased the Full Retail Office Ultimate 2007 that it (being an
expensive bit of software) would give me so much trouble. I've already RMA'd
the first delivery, which had the same result as the new package I've just
received. I'm not sure what else to do at this point. I think I might try to
install each component of the Ultimate package individually from within the
expanded cabs.

Success!
I utilized another computer's DVD drive, networked a connection to my Vista
computer's public folder, where I copied the installation DVD into a folder
called "Office Test" as recommended by the link shown above by Carey Frisch
[MVP].
Apparently the original error message given is slightly misleading in that
it does not indicate that the real reason the "Setup cannot continue..." is
actually caused by the computer's inability to read the DVD drive
directories, and not by any level of corruption on the Microsoft Office
installation disc.
I hope this posting will help others who have been getting this same
installation message---"Setup cannot continue because a required file is
either corrupt or not available."

Thanks Microsoft! (and Carey Frisch)!

Thanks everyjoe.com! I attempted to uninstall and reinstall office 2007 because it was giving me so many errors. I kept getting the "Setup cannot continue because a required file is either corrupt or unavailable..." I suspected some of the previous Office 2007 files were still around but I couldn't figure out how to remove them. I searched for the answer for days and finally found a forum that led me to this Microsoft support page.

This COMPLETELY removed all traces of Office from my computer and my new install went perfectly! Use this to remove your current version(S) of Office and reinstall!
