setup error preventing removal of office 97

When I try to uninstall 97 I get the following message.

The Set Up configuration file
'C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~2\OFFICE/SETUP\Off97pro.STF' is missing or corrupted.
Try running Setup again from where you originally ran it.

--This message pops up even if the office 97 cd is in the drive
--what must I do to be able to get past this message and uninstall windows 97?

Use the Office 97 CD that you have and either select (when CD starts and shows)
Repair present installation. Then when done repeat the process when inserting the
Office 97 CD and select Uninstall the installation
