Setup failed and then removed my Word and Excel !!!

I'm trying to install the "Office home and Student 2007" upgrade. When it
asked me for the key I put in what was in the package that I just purchased.
Later on setup complained that it found an error:
"Error 1707. Setup cannot find required files...." then told me to look in
....\office11\1033\setup.chm" which talk about putting a valid key.

At this point, setup undid what it was doing. And it ALSO removed my
installation of Word and Excel !!!!

I thought I could upgrade to this Office even though I did not purchase
Office in the past. I did purchase Word and Excel separately though, so do I
not qualify for this upgrade?

Please disregard my previous message. Although Setup failed, MS Office did
install correctly. When I tried to run the previous version of Excel it was
gone. However, when I tried to run the new Excel via All Programs...Office,
etc, it did run. I didn't try that before because I thought since Office
failed that it wasn't installed at all.
I was also able to register Office online when I first ran Excel.

This is way too confusing. Why would Office Setup say that it's undoing
everything it did in the installation but then Office was still there?!

Perhaps Setup failed because my laptop came pre-installed with a trial
version of Office 2007 (on Dec 1). But when I tried to run it, it kept asking
me for a key (which I didn't have), so I never actually got to see the trial
version. I did not uninstall it. Perhaps this caused the installation
problems.
