Setup up a hyperlink to follow a doc (i.e. the doc name chgs)

I have several hyperlinks setup in Doc1 that references information in Doc2.
Doc2 was renamed to Doc3. Is there a way to setup a hyperlink to follow a
document when it is renamed instead of having to rename the link in edit?

When the actual hyperlink is changed, then I could not think of any way
to do this in Word itself.

Some instance/repository would have to keep track of the hyperlink
targets and changes, and to program this in VBA seems a major thing to
realize.
