In Word 2007, and in Outlook 2007 which uses the same code in the message
editor, you certainly can.

Insert the table. The Table Tools ribbon will appear with two tabs under it,
Design and Layout. On the Design tab, look in the Table Styles group. There is a
large assortment of styles, many of which include alternate-row shading in
various colors.
