Shading in MS Word

Mr Mojo

I have a user (Win XP Pro, Office XP) who when she opens many of her
documents have a grey shading in portions of the document, such as the
header, footer and table of contents. When other people open the documents
they are fine.

It appears to be a profile specific problem, because I logged into her
machine under my account and the docs were Ok. I renamed her profile and
thus created a new one in Windows, and it was fine for a couple of days but
then the problem re-emerged. I have also done a system restore, and changed
her default printer to another printer. My feeling is that this is a quirky
print driver issue. Any other suggestions?

Table of contents will appear shaded with the following setting: Tools -
Options - View - Field Shading - Always (also, When Selected, but then only
when the ToC is selected).

Parts of the header/footer would also be shaded using the Always options if
the contents contains field codes (e.g., for date, page numbers, document
name, etc.).

I tell my clients to leave field code shading set to When Selected. That
way, if you're working with a field code, you're aware of it, and aren't
blind-sighted. The Always option, however, can be a bit distracting.
