Share Entourage settings and data between two MACs?

Is it advisable to share data and settings between two computers. I have done this in the PC world and it works OK as longs as synchronization of files happens in a controlled manner.

Would this be possible in the MAC world using Office 2008? I have an iMAC and a MacbBook that I would like to keep in sync.

What folders should be synchronized?

Are there any differences between the two computers making this a challenge? (both running same OS and Office versions)

You can share the database on a thumdrive, here is a description how:

I would be careful with thumb drives; they sometimes corrupt files. Always
make sure you have a backup on a hard drive.

This is the complete page with all options, check it out before you make up
your mind.

IMAP for an e-mail account is the best option, Gmail offers a free IMAP
account, you would have to turn on IMAP access in the Gmail account settings
(POP and forwarding) before you can set it up.

That is an interesting collection of ideas. As I have several (about 10-12) different e-mail accounts that I need to follow on while on the road I need to find a solution that is flexible.

Are settings and data stored in the same database, or could I copy account info, entourage settings, signatures separate and then keep mail on the server for individual DL on both machines?

I guess iMap would make this easier than using POP as I do right now...

Yes settings and data are stored in the database; the signatures and rules
are separate but everything else is stored in the database. You can export
and import almost everything using file - export /import as RGE but not your
account settings.
I would copy the database over when you go on the road and then copy it back
when you come back - make sure that you leave messages on the server with
your POP accounts. And yes IMAP would be more convenient.

So what this means is that when I copy the database, all e-mail and settings (and calendars, contacts etc) will follow to the other computer, right?

What files (or directories) would I have to sync to make this happen?

You'd want to copy your identity folder from one machine to the other, which
is located here:
/Users/<Your User>/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2008
Identities/<Your Identity>

You should quit all Office applications including the Database Daemon (you
can quit that using Activity Monitor) before attempting this.
