How do I go about sharing Outlook between Windows User
Accounts? Is there a way that two Windows identities can
both use the same Outlook Contacts and Messages (at
separate times, depending on which Windows identity
you're logged into)?
Yes. 1) Decide which username is the "master" because you're going to make
all of that username's mail available. 2) With Outlook closed, move the PST
for that username to some shared folder, like "Shared Documents\Outlook".
3) Start Outlook. When it complains it can't find the PST and gives you a
browse window, browse to the shared PST, select it, and click OK. The first
user should now be able to access mail just as before. 4) Close Outlook and
log out of Windows.
5) Log in as second user and rename the PST file, changing the file name,
but keeping the ".pst" file type. 6) See step 3. The user should not see
all of the same mail, Contacts, etc. the first user saw. If there is
nothing in the old PST this user wants, you're done. Otherwise, 7) In
Outlook, click File>Open>Outlook Data File and browse to the renamed PST of
step 5. Select it and click OK. Now you should be able to see both the
other user's items and the current user's old items. You can 8) leave
things just as they are or 8) move the items from this second PST into the
main PST so that both users see everything and then close the second PST.
PSTs, by default, are located in %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook. This is a hidden folder.
I hope this helps.
