Shared Border Keeps Going Away

S

Smart-Alex

I have asked before but the answers just didn't make sense or work.

I have menu system residing in my left border on MOST pages. When I try to
exclude it from ONE page...it disappears on ALL pages...even though I check
the "this page only". I have checked the "Shared borders" in Page
Options>Authoring.

This has happened so many times that I have learned to keep a back
up...BUT...when I replace it...al my menu links are wrong.
For example one menu item takes me to a page called "multimedia.htm" but NOW
it has re-written all my menus with (example) " /borders/multimedia.htm". In
order words it has added to "/borders" to all my menu links.

No matter what I do this keep happening over and over.

ADDITION...
I have also found that I can't upload my borders. They don't even show up
in FP2003. They are there but not available for upload
Damn..this is frustrating!!!

ANOTHER ADDENDUM

There is a page on the site : www.tuchidesigns.com/1st_class.htm that has
shared border. I need to get rid of it on that page. I know that if I do, my
menu with disappear on ALL pages...even if I check "Selected Pages". Then I
will have to rebuild the left.htm or use may backup. If I use the
backup...al my menu links will be wrong because they include
/borders/whatzit.htm

What happens when you just change the code in html / code view from
<meta name="Microsoft Border" content="tlb, default">
to
<meta name="Microsoft Border" content="none"> (no borders)
or
<meta name="Microsoft Border" content="t"> (top only)

Stafan,
I changed one of the pages where I don't want a left border to <meta
name="Microsoft Border" content="tb">
Then I went back and checked to see if the othe pages where I wanted to KEEP
the border were still there. They were! Eureka!
So I get the impression that getting rid of the "default" command did the
trick. I wonder why it doesn't work by doing the original way. I know that
in FP2000 I never had this problem.

Thank you very much. This has reduced my swear words significantly this
week!
