Shared Documents permissions lost

Hi,
I just installed Oct CU on Project server 2007. Also created a new Category
and moved old projects to it so nobody can access them.
We have some folders under "Shared Documents" in PWA root site. Not all
these folders inherit permission from the parent document library. Each
folder and documents within each folder have customized permissions. Today we
realised that after our updates to the server....all these permissions have
disappeared from these folders. Shared Documents folder has same permissions
that the PWA site has....but all other custom permissions from folders are
gone. Now we are getting this information from users and manually assigning
them. But I'd like to know the root cause for this issue....does "User
Synchronization for Project Web Access App Root Site and Project WSS
Workspaces" have anything to do with this ?

Thanks

Hi Nach,

It appears that the update kills your customized permissions by applying
the default permissions from the root throughout the lower levels.

Can you create a separate WSS web application & site using a URL
something like http://<prjsvr>/pmo ? This way you can customize your
user/group permissions without fear of wiping our you permissions by
applying the next update.

Better to spend a little time now, then constantly modifying your
customized permissions at every update.

Rolly,

Thanks a bunch for your response. If I create a site under PWA and do not
use the same permission as PWA does...do you think it will work ? I realised
that everythime the "User Synch..." process runs it wipes out Shared
Documents custom permissions. I'm going to create a new site have all the
permissions set and then run the "User Synch" process to see what happens. If
the permissions are retained...then I'll be OK.

I'll post back my findings.

Nach,

That will work if you use SharePoint Users/Groups and assign custom
permissions to the site

Let us know what happens.

Did this work as described? I've ran into a similar issue, in particular
with using auto-sync and want to document best practices.

Thanks!

Hello,

We are still having this problem. But I am managing it by using sharepoint
groups. For each folder I have created a sharepoint group(as we have diff set
of users assigned to diff folders) with the required users and assign that
group to this folder. In this case, the User Sync will not affect the
permission of sharepoint groups.

Thanks
nach.
