Shared files corrupted

We have been having a nagging problem with shared excel files getting
corrupted. This has been occurring about once a day now for a week.
There seems to be a correlation with increased usage of Office 2007.
On all installations of Office 2007 we have changed the settings to
default save 97-2003 format.
Any ideas on how to track the problem or figure out what is going on?

The only indication that this is about to happen, is that the size of
the file increases from about 15 megs to about 100 megs.

Can you explain the definition of 'shared' and your scenario, including what versions of Office are able to access the file, the
environment and where the files are stored?
