Sharepoint Edit Document Problem

D

Dominic Moss

Can anyone shed light on my current situation. I have installed Sharepoint
and Project Server, the integration with Sharepoint is working - newly
published projects have a subweb provisioned.

Accessing the documents option from the menu in PWA displays the View and
Upload documents page. In the public documents folder it is possible to add
a new document or to upload a document - this all works fine as well.

Problems occur when attempts are made to edit a document - I click on the
Edit icon and then in the EDIT page chose the Edit in Word or Excel icon
depending on the document type - I make changes and save the file, close and
return to the EDIT page where the File Name, Title, Status, Owner and
comments options reside.

Clicking the Save and Close button results in a Sharepoint error as follows:

Error, cannot complete this action.

This message appears in a Sharepoint "Branded" pane - Opening the document
from within Sharepoint reveals no changes have been made. Perversely going
back to the Edit in Word/Excel option reveals the document with the previous
changes retained.

Having never experienced this feature before I tried the same thing on my
own demo install of Project Server and Sharepoint and experienced exactly
the same thing. I am going to repeat the process again shortly and will
document all actions and various results as this "feature" appears to be a
tad inconsistent.

If any ng contributors can shed light on my darkness I would be eternally
grateful.
