SharePoint not connecting correctly to Office 2007

A SharePoint portal I use was recently upgraded to SharePoint 2007 SP1 from
2003 (I think the deployment failed somewhere, as a number of sharepoint
sites are still version 11, and I have 3 lots of personal information and 2
lots of My Site), and I was hoping that it would offer better compatibility
with Office 2007.

After going to the Version 12 My Site, I was asked if I wanted to make this
site the default My Site in Office, which is what I want, so I click yes.
However the site is not showing in the SharePoint Sites folder in the Open
dialog links (I am using Vista) when I open a file in Word. Plus the network
link to My Site in the Links bar apparently does not work with that program
(nor does it with Notepad).

Attempting to open a file would provide me with a question on whether I
wanted to open read only or edit mode. I chose edit, and after having to
select a security certificate 3 times (cancelling would quit word), and
logging into the portal, I get my file in read only mode. Saving it required
me saving to my PC then reuploading to My Site in Internet Explorer.

Does anyone have any idea whats going on, or is this the cause of a
problematic upgrade and I need to contact IT?

Thanks.
