Sharepoint path in word options

E

Eric van der Niet

Hello,

Hope someone can help me with a problem I have. I want to store my global
template (with macro's) in a SharePoint enviroment. I know that i can access
this location the \\sharepointpath\documentlib way..... But I Can't use this
webpath in my startup options from word. So this way i can't automaticly
start a template. What I can do is use a drive mapping to map a drive letter
to this location and then use this drive letter in the Word options. But my
client's enviroment does not permit this. Is there a other solution???

Kind regards,
Eric van der Niet

Hello Eric,

From your post, my understanding on this issue is: you want to know how to
set Word's Startup Location as a web address in SharePoint. If I'm off
base, please feel free to let me know.

When we set the Startup Location (Word 2007
Options->Advanced->General->File Locations->Startup) as a SharePoint path,
such as \\spsserver\Documents, Word may alert that "You cannot use an
Internet address here. Enter a path that points to a location on your
computer or on the network.". As the alert information says, a valid
Startup Location can be either a local address or a network one. In order
to access the Word template located in the internet address, I think we
have two workarounds:

#1. As you did, we map a *local directory* to the internet address, and set
startup location as the local one. (But your client's environment does not
permit it.)
#2. We could share a *network directory* (e.g. \\server\shares\) with your
clients, and in the directory, we add a shortcut to the word template in
SPS. Then, we could set the startup location as the network directory
(\\server\shares\). In this way, you may find Word automatically redirect
to the real template (\\spsserver\Documents\Sample.dotx) in the list of
"Global templates and addins" when it's opened. Please have a try and let
me know the result.

If you have any other concern or need anything else, please feel free to
let me know.

Sincerely,
