Sharepoint Services

I'm installing a new Project Server. The server is running Windows Server
2003 R2 and SQL Server 2005 SP2. I'm going to install Project Server 2003
and I was wondering if these versions of SQL and Project are both compatible
with Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0? I planned to upgrade WSS before I
install Project Server. Thanks!

Project Server 2003 is not compatible with WSS3.0 (or in other words the out
of the box integration between Project server and WSS will not work) .

Project Server 2003 works with WSS2.0. Project Server 2007 is compatible
with WSS3.0.

From back end perspective 2005 Sp2 is fine.

Hope this helps

GG - thanks so much for the information. I'm new to Project Server AND
Sharepoint Services, so your input was valuable. I've been searching the web
for just this kind of information.

I've been reading about some incompatibilities with SQL Server 2005 and
Project Server 2003 as well, and I'm beginning to think that I would be
better off installing Project Server 2007. I had planned the Project Server
2003 installation because we are currently using Project 2003 Professional
clients, and the upgrade cost was not in my budget this year. Perhaps I
should rethink that decision. :)

You are welcome Tony. I think it would be certainly a better idea to pursue
2007 compared to 2003. You can also check if you have Software assurance
which covers upgrade for free.

Mr. Chefetz, thank you for your reply. I just purchased your book,
Implementing and Administering MS Office Project Server 2007, and it has
helped me tremendously! THANK YOU!

There is something I still need some help with. My server OS is Windows
Server 2003 R2, and it currently has SharePoint Services 2.0 installed. Do I
need to download and install v. 3.0, or is it included in the Project Server
2007 installation? Also, I've read that it can be installed side-by-side
with v.2.0. What is your recommendation?

Thanks again for your help!

Toni

ToniSu:

The WSS 3.0 bits are included with the Project Server installation package.
I've never run both versions of WSS side-by-side, so I can't give you any
guidance on that. I'd definitely read everything on that subject in the
TechNet library before tackling it. Thanks for your kind words on the book!
