Sharepoint Timer Service killing performance and blocking save/pub

In my PS 07 virtual machine, project saving and publishing hangs until I
restart the OWSTimer and ProjectServerQueing services.

at other times, the OWSTimer.exe is wreaking havoc on system performance.

What is the root cause of this? Is it a time synchronization problem?

1.7 G allocated to the VM running on a dual core laptop. And yes.. I do have
sql running on the same VM.

Publishing large projects to this machine is is really not a good idea.
SQL/Project Server and the OS will all be competing for a relatively small
amount of memory, disk io and processor capacity. Depending on what you
consider to be a large project I'm not surprised it's having issues.

I'd you'r insisting on maintaining this VM, I'd strongly recommend providing
4GB RAM and offloading the SQL DB's to another virtual hard drive (on a
different physical disk)
