I know this might not be the best group to ask this but here goes. Which
product do you use to modify Sharepoint web parts?

That would be Visual Studio.Net, after installing the SharePoint SDK.

Is there a good book you could recomend? Also do I need to develope on a
machine running Windows Server 2003? I'm assuming yes because I need to have
Sharepoint on the system, correct? But right now I'm running XP Pro and I
don't think my management will be willing to change. I want to use the
Sharepoint for an intranet but I may not be able to because of that.

Thanks for the info.

Hi Conrad,

Unfortunately, no. I rely almost entirely on the SDK materials (both the
..Net SDK and the SharePoint SDK), and Google is my home page.

You can install WSS on either Windows 2003 Server or on Windows XP Pro. I
believe the 2003 Server version has a lot more functionality. But for
developing and testing WebPart Controls, XP Pro is fine.
