What is meant by sharepoint server and sharepoint portal server 2003?,what is
the usage of sharepoint service and portal server?,Why should i install these
servers?

For small deployments & where you don't want to use Sharepoint extensively,
use WSS (Windows Sharepoint Services), as it is free products. While
Sharepoint Portal Server (SPS) is not.

To track issues, risks, docuemnts & for collaboration features you need
Sharepoint.
