Sharing Outlook 2000 PST File Over Lan

I'm having problems trying to share my outlook.pst file across my LAN.
I can access the file fine BUT updates made from one computer do not
appear on the other computer. For example, both PCs retrieve the same
email from my ISP's mail server each time I use Outlook and changing
the due date for a task on one computer is not reflected if I check
the same task from another computer. I can also delete messages from
the inbox from one PC and they still appear in the inbox from the
other PC.

The behavior is like the PCs are accessing different PST files. I've
verified that both PCs are set to use the PST file on my networked
drive. Any suggestions on what could be wrong? Is it possible that one
PST file have multiple copies of my folders and each PC is access a
different copy of the folders? If that is the case, how can I correct
this problem.

Hare are some configuration details:
1/ Both PCs use XP Home and Outlook 2000 (SP3, Internet mail only –
security update)
2/ PST resides on a mapped network drive on a Linux server running
Samba
3/ Both PCs show display only one copy of the personal folder when I
do View -> Folder List
