SHARING OUTLOOK CALENDAR

I work in a school as the Headteacher's PA. She has just
purchased a phone/pda that has the capacity to synchronise
with outlook. We are looking to use outlook to keep the
Head's diary on, the problem is that we need to be able to
share the diary between myself and the Head. I have seen
sofware on the internet that claims it can do this without
an exchange server - does anyone know if software does
exist that can eliminate the expensive outlay of an
exchange server. Would appreciate any advice on this
matter and the best way forward.
